Frank Hopkins (Burton Richardson) is a wealthy American MMA champion living in Honolulu. But Frank is unhappy. Despite the exotic cars, extravagant house, and beautiful women, he can always find something to complain about. His business partner Axel (Charles Jewitt) sends Frank to Manila, Philippines to promote their line of MMA products. Frank's pessimistic attitude irritates his bodyguard, Boy (Ronnie Ricketts), and Boy's sister-in-law, Girly (Andrea Del Rosario). But Frank's life is about to change when he is double-crossed, left penniless, and pursued by the police. Boy saves Frank by taking him to his home in the squatter area. But Axel sends a team of American martial arts experts to capture Frank in Manila. This formidable team is led by their guide Shaquille (Niño Muhlach). Can a rich American survive in a Manila slum? Can he discover the secret to happiness there? Can he find love?

The upcoming action-drama-comedy film One Percent Full will star Ronnie Ricketts and international martial arts expert Burton Richardson. This co-production venture between Ronnie's Rocketts Films and Burton's Fat-Free Productions will open in theaters starting October 10.

Burton is a martial arts expert who is a certified instructor of Jet Lee's Jeet Kune Do style of martial arts. He served as a stunt choreographer of Hollywood movies like The Man in the Iron Mask (starring Leonardo DiCaprio). He has also acted in Low Down Dirty Shame (starring Keenen Ivory Wayans) and Fire Down Below (Steven Seagal).

Because of his expertise in martial arts, Burton has been invited to several countries such as South Africa where he met his Indian wife, British-born Sarah Badat, who worked as a TV host in her country.

Born in California, Burton lived in a community na napakaraming Filipino, so marami na rin siyang naging kaibigang Pinoy at kahit paano marunong magsalita ng Tagalog. "Konti lang, nakakaintindi ako pero konti," Burton told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in the press conference held yesterday, September 27, sa isang restaurant sa Roces Avenue.

Dahil may dugong showbiz si Burton (he is the great grandson of Irene Franklin, the "Queen of Vaudeville" before the advent of silent pictures), it is not surprising na pumasok rin siya sa showbiz.

While shooting for a movie in the U.S. late last year, nagkakilala sila ni Ronnie, who was on vacation with wife Mariz and their two daughters.

Na-impress si Ronnie sa trabaho ni Richard kung kaya't kinausap niya ito. In turn, nakakapanood naman daw si Richard ng mga Pinoy movies and he has seen Ronnie's action movies. They proceeded to co-produce the movie One Percent Full.

Shot in Hawaii; San Diego, California; and Manila, One Per Cent Full is a movie about friendship between races. May action din ito at may comedy.

"We wanted to show the difference in the mentality of the Americans and the Filipinos here," sabi ni Richard sa presscon ng pelikula.

Tungkol sa mga Pinoy ang kuwento. Kaya ganito ang titulo dahil ang mga Pilipino raw kasi, nagkakasya na kung ano ang meron, that's why even one percent is already full for them.

The movie also stars Andrea del Rosario and Niño Muhlach.

Sa Pilipinas unang ipapalabas ang One Percent Full sa darating na October 10. Nakikipag-usap si Richard sa dalawang Hollywood distributors for the release of the movie in the United States end of this year.

Ronnie Ricketts is starring in a movie produced by an American for the Filipinos and audiences around the world.
Bruce Lee’s third man in his martial arts lineage is in Manila to promote his upcoming movie entitled One Percent Full. Burton Richardson has finally completed his latest project co-starring with an equally acclaimed martial artist, well-known action star, director and movie producer in the Philippines, Ronnie Ricketts.
Burton, to many of the martial arts enthusiasts all over the world, is considered as one of the leading mixed martial arts coaches. A blackbelt holder in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, and Arnis, Master Burton has trained and worked with a lot of Hollywood stars and top martial artists like Steven Seagal, Keanu Reeves, Brandon Lee, Randy Couture, Dan Inosanto and a lot more.
He has always been on the go and keeps on traveling around the world teaching martial arts and also acquiring lots of training and knowledge to perfect his craft. Because of his exposure to Hollywood, acting, writing and directing, he has also learned to appreciate and further develop his passion for movie making.
Being a true-blue martial arts expert, he had a strong desire to know more about the art of Arnis, which originated in the Philippines. His first trip to Manila was in 1979. Back then, he trained with the senior masters of Arnis. He was not only satisfied with the knowledge that he acquired but was also well-pleased and amazed with the people and the country. That was the start of him, embracing its culture and making the Philippines his second home.
Eversince, he makes it a point to go back to Manila every now and then. It was during one of his trips in 1999 that he had another training with the head instructor of Bakbakan International which is known for their exceptional techniques in street fighting and one of the top mentors of Arnis in the Philippines, Master Christopher Ricketts who happens to be action star Ronnie Ricketts’ brother.
Ronnie was invited to one of Burton’s trainings and being a big fan of Bruce Lee and knowing that Burton Richardson has a significant connection to Bruce Lee when it comes to his origin in martial arts, he was very willing to go. Ronnie was pleased to meet Burton in person. Ronnie was surprised to hear that Burton had seen some of his movies. It was through his research while looking in the Internet for the whereabouts of Master Christopher Ricketts. He found out that he has a brother who is an action star in the Philippines.
Right away, they clicked with each other. They exchanged lots of ideas: from martial arts to movies and even having the same stand when it comes to vices… Burton and Ronnie are both for clean and healthy living.
In 2004, Ronnie and his family went to the States for a vacation. At that time, Ronnie learned that Burton was also in the US doing a movie in Los Angeles, California. They called and hooked up with each other. Burton invited him to come over and showed him around LA where he was filming an action movie. Ronnie was very honored and grateful to Burton for that experience. While having a break, Burton asked Ronnie if he would be interested to do a movie with him. To Ronnie’s mind, it was just one of those offers to him that were all uncertain but he, of course, said yes to him.
Almost two years have passed and Burton again had a brief visit to Manila in August 2006 but this time, he was not here for training but wanted to have a serious talk with Ronnie. Burton handed a script to Ronnie and to his surprise, it was the movie that Burton was offering to him during their short encounter years ago in LA.
Ronnie loved the script and they started planning for the project. They first did the location hunting and casting while Burton was still in Manila and continued doing the brainstorming, budgeting and other concerns through e-mails and telephone calls. Burton was back here in November of the same year to finalize everything and three weeks after, cameras started to grind. The movie was shot in Hawaii, where Burton is based, and here in Manila.
Direk Burton, as people on the set addressed him, without a doubt, enjoyed this experience and will cherish a lot of good memories while doing One Percent Full in Manila. One of them is Andrea del Rosario. Direk Burton was absolutely charmed by this beautiful actress on and off screen who was chosen as his leading lady for this project. He promised to be back again and do more films under Fat Free Entertainment, collaborate more with Ronnie and his Rocketts Productions. He knows very well that Ronnie’s heart, vision and direction is always for the movies especially action movies. They would want to help and work with other actors.
Burton was tremendously impressed with Ronnie’s ideas, genuine attitude and commitment towards work. No wonder they have completed the movie with no interruptions and accomplished it as planned.
As he also mentioned, with Ronnie’s talent, dedication and expertise in martial arts, who knows, his next destination is—Hollywood!
Watch out for their first team-up in this very heart-warming and of course, action-packed movie entitled One Percent Full.
There will be a red carpet premiere on Oct. 7, 7 p.m. at SM North Edsa, Cinema 6.

"I was auditioned by Director Burton Richardson. And I believe I was chosen because of my Filipina look. And I also learned later that my role was that of woman residing in a depressed area.
"The movie is in English dialogue - my first time. Direk Burton, who is playing the lead role with Ronnie Ricketts, had a kissing scene with me, and to my surprise, he kissed me in my forehead. But we had a re-take and his lips touched mine."
And what kind of a director/artist is Burton Richardson?
Andrea described him as "sobrang bait, professional and puro puri."
Andrea is presently engaged with a French business man, Eric Noyel. She revealed that her mother had been invited to France by Eric where she met Eric’s parents.
The relationship, so far, is going steady and strong, according to Andrea.

Burton Richardson is a martial arts expert, and he has always been invited around the world to teach martial arts. In Hollywood, he has done several action movies where he is either the director, producer or actor.
He met Ronnie Ricketts in Los Angeles and it was that meeting that "One Percent Full" had its inception.
Burton expertise brought him to French territory near South Africa, the Re-Union island where his wife-to-be was working as TV host.
That meeting bloomed into a romance, and they got married nine years ago. They are stilt childness. Burton said it was because they travel a lot.
Both Sarah and Burton are vegetarians. Sarah is of Indian parentage, but she was born in Re-Union island, a French territory. Sarah is therefore a French citizen. She plays a cameo role in "One Percent Full."

The Philippine StarJust when everybody thought that he and his wife Mariz and their two daughters have made good their plan to migrate to California (where his parents, Edith and Naldo Ricketts own and manage their own flourishing real-estate business in San Diego), Ronnie Ricketts would surface to announce that, yes, he has just wrapped up an action film called One Percent Full which is intended for international release.

“We are showing the movie in Manila starting on Oct. 10, after its premiere on Oct. 7 (at SM North),” Ronnie told Funfare in an exclusive interview. “We are releasing it in Manila first para hindi ma-pirate. Then, we’ll have premiere showings in Hawaii and San Diego.”
Co-starring with Ronnie is famous martial artist Burton Richardson (leading lady is Andrea del Rosario) who is the fight instructor of such Hollywood stars as Steven Seagal and Keanu Reeves. His style is jet kundo, a la Bruce Lee, and he is ranked No. 3 in that martial-arts form.
“I met Burton through my brother, Topher, who is also a martial-arts instructor. It was Burton who came up with the idea that we do a movie together. My family and I were having a vacation in the States, and Topher showed me around. We visited the set of Burton’s movie and that’s how we knew each other. We clicked at once. Our ideas jibed. Even our lifestyle is the same. We have the same campaign in our movies. Pareho kaming clean-living, no vices; we are both vegetarian.”

One Percent Full is a co-production venture between Ronnie’s Rocketts Films and Burton’s Fat-Free Productions.“As you will notice,” noted Ronnie, “even the name of Burton’s company proclaims his advocacy which is the same as mine.”
Also co-directed by Ronnie and Burton, One Percent Full is the story of a rich American guy (Burton) who comes to the Philippines and loses everything. Then, he meets Ronnie’s character who comes to his rescue. The two venture into all sorts of adventures, surviving many challenges along the way.“It’s not the typical action movie,” said Ronnie. “It has a good story which I cannot elaborate on baka ma-preempt. It was Burton who wrote the screenplay. I just put in some changes where Filipino values are concerned. He wants to test the water in the Philippines and if One Percent Full makes good, and I’m sure it will, then we can go on with more projects.”
Among Ronnie’s own plans is a Four Brothers kind of movie that will star Ronnie and other action stars like Ian Veneracion and Monsour del Rosario, perhaps with Kuya Ipe (Phillip Salvador) as the big brother. “I’m also jamming with director Lino Cayetano who, I discovered, is a deep director with so many exciting ideas. I met Lino last Saturday in an event sponsored by his sister, Sen. Pia Cayetano. Anytime now, I will sit down with Bill Velasco (STAR’s sports columnist) who has great ideas for scripts.”
As in his past movie, One Percent Full is devoid of sex and violence, meaning the fight scenes are executed by hand-to-hand combat and not with the use of guns and/or deadly weapons (knives, etc.).True to his clean-living advocacy (no smoking, no drinking, no vices, etc.), Ronnie is endorsing Exped Socks with his family (they’re doing a mall promo tour next month). On Oct. 2 at 3 p.m., he and his Bakbakan buddies will hold an anti-smoking campaign highlighted by a basketball match between their all-star team and the Philippine Christian University (PCU) Dolphins at the San Andres Gym, San Andres, Manila. Ronnie is a graduate of PCU which has been awarded as a smoke-free-zone school. Ronnie himself got the same award.“We call our group Bakbakan International (bakbakan.com), composed of martial-arts enthusiasts. Among our celebrity members are TJ Trinidad, Sen. American martial arts champion teams up with Ronnie Ricketts
BURTON RICHARDSON is touted as the legendary Bruce Lee’s third man in the world of martial arts. The world champion is in Manila to promote his upcoming movie One Percent Full, in collaboration with local actor Ronnie Ricketts.
Known to those in the world of martial arts, Richardson is considered one of the leading mixed martial arts most sought-after coaches. A black belter in Brazilian jiu jitsu, jeet-kune-do and arnis, Master Burton (as he is fondly referred to) has trained and worked with a lot of Hollywood stars and top martial arts experts like Steven Seagal, Keannu Reeves, Randy Couture, Dan Inosanto and Bruce Lee’s son Brandon.
Being a seasoned martial arts expert, he wanted to know more about the art of arnis, which originated in the Philippines. So in 1979, he flew to Manila where he trained with the senior local masters of arnis. “I was not only satisfied with what I learned and discovered about arnis but I was also well pleased and amazed with your people and your country,” he shares. Although he did not marry a Filipina (he’s married to someone from Reunion island), Richardson reveals that he has been swept by the beauty and the charm of the Filipina. “I guess most island girls are gifted with this unique charm and innocence, and of course, of that famous Filipino smile.”
It was during one of his trips in 1999 when he had another training with Christopher Ricketts, the head instructor of Bakbakan International, which is known for its exceptional techniques in street fighting and one of the top mentors of arnis in the Philippines. “That was the time I was introduced to Ronnie and we hit it off right away. That was when we planted the seed of this movie,” Richardson recalls.
The last time a good action film was produced and shown locally was almost six months ago, by way of the courageous efforts of producer-actor Derek Dee. Ricketts admits that producing an action film is a big risk nowadays when low-budgeted indie flicks are a dime a dozen. “But we have to take risks. It’s kinda sad that it had to take a foreign producer-director to believe in the potential of Filipino actors and to make the move to invest here in our country, not only to give jobs to the people working on film but more important, to showcase what the Filipino can do.”
The movie was also shot partly in Hawaii and stars some local actors like Andrea del Rosario and Niño Muhlach. One Percent Full will have its red-carpet premiere on October 7 at the SM North EDSA Cinema 6 and will start its commercial run on October 10.
